Even given that disappointment, it's been a delightful day - starting with a blueberry/blackberry Dutch Baby (the recipe of which is here), and lots of progress carrying out the garden tasks I described above. Though a very few plants are struggling a bit, I am very pleased with how the garden is progressing. Tonight we will be roasting the two eggplant we picked from the plant we kept alive in the garage from last season and adding the flesh to our dinner (a leftover chickpea and kale dish). At least half of my plants are setting fruit. When things start ripening, it is going to be pretty busy with all of the documenting, tasting and seed saving - and yes, consuming!
I never know where the weekends go...and here we are late Sunday afternoon....Sue is sewing, we are having a nice visit from Sara, and cats are playing with some catnip.
Tomorrow is the day to mow the lawn...and then spread newspapers on the squash/melon area of the garden and cover with the grass clippings so that the weeds will be more easily managed this season.
Have a nice evening, everyone!
