So - last week I planted the 36 varieties plus two - an extra Sweet Adelaide from a different seed lot, and Dwarf Scarlet Heart (hence 38 plants) in the bales. The average height of the plants was 6.25 inches, ranging between the 4 inch tall Yukon Quest to the 8 inch tall Dwarf Pink Passion, Dwarf Scarlet Heart and Rosella Crimson.
Today, the average height is 7.75 inches, an increase of 1.5 inches on average. The height range is from 4.5 inches tall for Yukon Quest, to 10 inches for Dwarf Pink Passion and Dwarf Emerald Giant.
Just for fun, let's compare the Grumpy line with the Sneezy line and add in the Nosey line. Grumpy - Sleeping Lady (7), Yukon Quest (4.5), Iditarod Red (8), Bundaberg Rumball (7) and Dwarf Arctic Rose (7) - ave height 6.5 inches. Sneezy line - Dwarf Kelly Green (9), Jade Beauty (8), Beryl Beauty (7.5), Summertime Green (8), Summertime Gold (8), Summer Sweet Gold (7), Mr. Snow (9), Emerald Giant (10), Sweet Sue (9) and Summer Sunrise (6) - ave height 8 inches. Nosey line - Dwarf Pink Passion (10), Golden Heart (8.5) and Scarlet Heart (9.5) - ave height 9 inches. If this holds, it will confirm my observation that the Grumpy line does not get as tall in general as the Sneezy and Nosey lines. We have less of the Sleepy, Tipsy, Happy and Cheeky line, so the data won't be as meaningful.
