Yesterday saw a bit more seed sowing activity. Joining the lettuce, chard, spinach and asian greens in front of the window are 5 pots of beets. And the driveway menagerie of large pots grew by one with the seeding of some French Breakfast radishes. I've yet to see germination on the carrots and radishes from the plantings of last week....perhaps today, aided by temps in the 70s.
As the calendar turns to February, plans are underway for the next major sowing activity - the slower growing hot peppers and eggplant, followed by herbs and flowers. For fun this year, I will be planting some older peppers and tomatoes and beans and giving them plenty of germination time on the heat mats....each year I enjoy learning more about how seeds retain (or lose) germination ability with age. In order to fit these additional flats, a second table will need to be placed in front of my other office window.
The main challenge of course is keeping our cats, Kip and Sam, out of the office - from past experience it is clear how much they enjoy moving my efforts aside for a good nap in the sun.
