It's not nearly warm enough yet for this time of year. But I just couldn't take it any more, so I picked up the rake and dragged the leaves of last fall and winter out of our shade gardens, back yard edge flower area, and side yard perennial (and weed!) patch. What did I find? Those first shoots - bleeding heart, mostly, but also daylilies - and daffodils and crocus. Got the pruners out and gave the Beauty Berry a pretty severe hair cut. Counted the garlic shoots from last fall's planting (nearly 70 plants growing - every bulb I planted is alive!). What a great time of the year this is....
