Despite that, the garden is still under control and reacts to hose watering. And what reactions! The lettuces, chard, kale and greens all seem to be doubling practically every day. We are in our nightly salad routine (a routine we miss when the lettuce bolts and the tomatoes then follow - why can't they coordinate things to come together?). A few of the leaf lettuce - Dalgali, Italianischer - are doing what we observed last year with the early heat...threatening to be the first to bolt. But no matter - that's the joy of having 25 types. This year I am letting the butterheads and cos lettuce head up a bit and keeping our leaf picking to those types that are obviously leaf lettuces.
Well, after last evening's false start, off to the UK this evening (maybe?!).....
