My dad always had backyard gardens - and much later in his life, he caught the heirloom tomato bug from me. For several years I sent him seeds, which he started in the basement. Later on, I sent him seedlings. All of my parents' friends loved his tomatoes - Cherokee Purple and Cherokee Chocolate were his favorites. He saved seeds as well - when Sue and I went to clean out the house, after my father died, we found his seeds.....perhaps next year I will start a selection of his saved seeds. He is always gardening alongside me as I tend to the plants in the driveway...and it is a great comfort.
The connection between Harry and tomatoes is a bit different! More of a golfer than a gardener, Harry had to ensure a constant barrage of heirloom tasting and comparisons, as his wife, Anne, IS an avid and accomplished gardener! She also caught the heirloom bug from he, and she also is the recipient of seeds and plants....
